Clean praise for local residents
There was a large turnout at the Bee Park Centre Manorhamilton last Thursday night for Leitrim County Council’s annual Housing Estate Awards.
Now in its fourth year, the aim of the Scheme is to recognise and publicly acknowledge the excellent work of Residents Associations throughout Leitrim in the upkeep of their estates. The scheme also aims to bring neighbours together and nurtures a sense of pride and community spirit.
One of Leitrim’s biggest housing estates, Townspark in Carrick on Shannon scooped a number of awards on the night including the Large Estate award and was the first winner of the ‘Best Green Estate’ award.
The ‘Green Estate’ award was introduced this year to develop a partnership approach between the Residents Associations and the local authority in the area of waste management, recycling, composting and litter management.
Mc Dermott Terrace, Manorhamilton also came away with two awards on the night winning the “Best Entrance” award and finishing second in the Large Estate section.
Speaking at the awards Cathaoirleach Damian Brennan paid tribute to the invaluable work of Residents Associations throughout the County for their voluntary effort, which plays such an important role in improving both the physical environment and the quality of life for Residents in their Estates. Each of the winners was presented with a commemorative plaque together with a cash prize.
