The public has a vital role to play in ensuring the survival of Leitrim’s rural post offices according to Councillor Aodh Flynn.
Figures released last week by the St Vincent de Paul society revealed that 41% of the county’s contractor-operated offices closed between the years 2002-2005, the highest percentage in Ireland.

Hopes that Connacht Gold would reverse it decision to close its Bornacoola store were finally dashed last Tuesday evening.
Following its monthly meeting in Tubbercurry, County Sligo, the Connacht Gold board confirmed that its decision to close the landmark store after over 110 years of business will not be overturned.

There were three Leitrim winners at the Local Authority Members Association (LAMA) Awards which were held in the City West Hotel, Dublin on Saturday night.
Carrick-on-Shannon’s, Breffni Community Development Ltd, scooped the Best Estate Management Award, while the Ballinamore based firm, W.P Toolan Solicitors was awarded the Best Eco Friendly Business Award.
